Basic Overnight Oats

Basic Overnight Oats

The base of this recipe is how I start almost all of my overnight oat recipes (I eat this 5-6 mornings of the week). I keep the taste and texture varied so I don't get bored by using different nuts, seeds, nut butters and other ingredients such as coconut flakes or cacao powder. I use almost any fruit from banana and berries to kiwi and orange and either mix it in the night before (if it is covered in milk it won't brown) or slice it on top in the morning. I sometimes add 1 tbs of dried fruit in the mix too if I want it that little bit sweeter or I use cinnamon, honey or maple syrup. The combinations are seriously endless!

Basic Overnight Oats

Serves 1

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup rolled oats

  • 1/3 cup Greek or natural yoghurt

  • 1/2 cup milk

  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon (optional)

  • 1/2 tbs sunflower seeds

  • 1/2 tbs pepita seeds

  • 1 tbs coconut flakes

  • 2 tsp peanut or almond butter

  • 1/2 sliced banana

Method

  1. Add oats, milk, yoghurt and cinnamon (optional) in a bowl, jar or container

  2. Leave for 2 hours or overnight and top with remaining ingredients in the morning

  3. Grab and go for a speedy breakfast or eat after a little sleep in

Tip: if you are short on time in the morning just add all ingredients into the bowl and mix to combine. It won't look as pretty the next morning but it still tastes delicious!
